Privacy Policy
BPAG Accounting ("BPAG", "we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities. This typically includes:
- Your name, business name, email address and phone number;
- Information you provide through our contact form, calls or meetings;
- Financial and business information you provide so that we can deliver accounting, bookkeeping or advisory services; and
- Basic technical data (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited) collected automatically when you use our website.
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you — for example, when you submit our contact form, engage us as a client, correspond with us, or attend a meeting. Where necessary, and with your consent, we may also collect information from third parties such as your bank, the Australian Taxation Office or software providers (e.g. Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks).
3. How we use it
We use your personal information to:
- Respond to your enquiry and arrange an introductory consultation;
- Provide accounting, bookkeeping, taxation and related advisory services;
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including those under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (Cth) and Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth); and
- Improve our website and services.
We do not sell your personal information. We will only send you marketing communications if you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
4. Who we share it with
We may disclose your personal information to:
- Our staff and contractors who need access to deliver our services;
- Third-party service providers who support our business (e.g. cloud accounting platforms, secure file storage, email, scheduling and CRM tools);
- Government agencies, including the Australian Taxation Office and ASIC, where required by law; and
- Your other professional advisers, but only with your authorisation.
Some of these providers may store data outside Australia. Before disclosing your information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient is bound by obligations substantially similar to the APPs.
5. How we keep it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include access controls, encrypted storage, and staff training. We retain information only for as long as required to provide our services and to meet our legal obligations (including the seven-year records retention requirement under Australian tax law).
6. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to help it function and to measure traffic. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as intended.
7. Your rights
You have the right to request access to, and correction of, the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, or to raise any concerns about how we handle your information, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
